Intel to AMD chip swap process update Change in RAM specifications for Intel to AMD models
Hey so I'm planning on upgrading my PC from an intel i3 7th gen (b250M motherboard) to a Ryzen 5 (b450 Motherboard), and a mate of mine said that i need to change the RAM or see if it is compatible with the motherboard im buying. Is there any truth to this?
It should function but not at peak performance unless you significantly increased the original memory capacity. For the processor you're aiming for, 3200 to 3600 MHz is usually ideal. Start by testing it unless you have a clear plan to upgrade to higher speeds right away.
The RAM should generally fit a Ryzen PC, though I recommend swapping it regardless.
It might not support the XMP profile, but DDR4 is compatible and will function as long as you keep the speed in mind.
