AMD offers high-performance CPUs such as the Treadripper, while Intel hasn't developed a comparable product. If Intel were to create one, it would likely be referred to by its official name or a specific model designation.

X299 system built on Intel 109xxX line. Specifically, I'm using a 10940X on an Asrock X299 Taichi XE.

It belongs to a completely different market area...but it's one of the few CPUs with a large number of cores. AMD stopped making traditional Threadripper, so you can only get Threadripper Pro on a prebuilt workstation. Technically, AMD no longer offers a build option for yourself unless you opt for an older model.

Not yet this week; it was last week or the week prior. You can try Threadripper Pro on its own.

That's quite different from what you expect; it's more like a mix of GPGPU and CPU components. That explains the low clock speeds—it's running on a GPU. The naming on the core seems intentional, as knights refer to it that way. Intel hasn't matched thread ripper's performance since 2019, but they might catch up with Sapphire or Emerald Rapids once those issues are resolved. These chips could be delayed due to a hardware security bug, though they're expected to launch as Xeons first. Granite Rapids in late 2024 or early 2025 might finally bring Intel back into the picture.

The term you're talking about is often referred to as HEDT or high-end desktop. Currently, Intel hasn't released a device meant to directly challenge the Zen3 Threadripper. The most recent comparable was Cascade Lake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascade_La...processor)

Threadripper is in HEDT, and as mentioned before Intel's last offering in that area was Cascade Lake-X, on the X299 platform succeeding Skylake-X. Intel's HEDT offerings were based off server CPUs, and being realistic in recent years they've not been great and wouldn't compete against AMD in many areas. There's also the more "pro" end where Intel has Xeon Workstation, and AMD has Threadripper Pro. The Xeons do exist, but again don't compare well vs AMD, and are certainly not consumer facing. Sapphire Rapids is the upcoming server generation. It's late, but it might open the door to a return to consumer facing HEDT platform in future.
