I recently received a Maximus VII Formula and formatted my SSD during installation. I installed LEGIT Windows 8.1 along with drivers and additional software. Despite this, I couldn't install the Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver. My PC boots slowly, loads startup apps takes time, and it sometimes takes half a minute to power up enough for me to enter my password or PIN. I suspect the issue lies with the IRST driver rather than the motherboard itself. I tried enabling it in the UEFI/BIOS, downloaded the driver from both the motherboard’s website and Intel’s site, but it still doesn’t install properly. A forum suggested creating a separate partition for it—ideally matching my RAM size. With 16GB of RAM and a 128GB Samsung 840 SSD, I can only shrink the primary partition to about 6GB (the maximum unused space). I have roughly 35GB free, but I’m limited because SSDs behave differently. My questions are: A) Is the IRST driver actually necessary or just unnecessary? B) If it is important, what might be slowing down the boot and wake-up process? C) If it helps, can I install it without reducing my main partition too much?

RST seems intended for use with traditional hard drives. It offers little benefit on SSDs where boot times are already quick. If you notice delays between loading and opening an app, it might point to startup programs or SSD problems. Regarding waking from sleep, I can't confirm. I don't rely on it since SSDs boot rapidly enough for my requirements.
