I need to design a PC for a friend who’s switching from Mac for Cubase and light video editing. He’s currently using an Antelope Discrete 8 via Thunderbolt 2, and he’s considering two options: a Gigabyte Z390 Designare with a 9700K or an MSI B550 Vision D with a 3700X. I think the 3700X might offer better performance, but I’m concerned about running Thunderbolt on AMD, especially regarding backward compatibility. Anyone have some guidance?

Thunderbolt 3 works well alongside other Thunderbolt versions, just like USB3 supports older USB2 devices.
