Intel Optane paired with RTX 3080 on X570 (Zen3) platform
I'm looking to link a RTX 3080 with PCIe 4.0 8x and an Intel Optane Drive using PCIe 3.0 4x via a standard PCIe slot. Both devices need direct CPU connection for optimal performance with Optane. Most manufacturers don't clearly confirm this setup. Would anyone know if it's feasible? I'm considering an Aorus board to remove the fan with the EKWB waterblock. Cheers!
Avoid placing Optane inside a M.2 slot. At least one module should connect directly to the CPU for optimal performance.
The issue is determining whether 4.0 and 3.0 devices can be connected to the two CPU slots. I'm unsure about the exact details, though I'm keen to explore this further. On Optane, have you checked its performance in chipset-connected lanes? I remember doing a test before and sharing the results on the forum, but I haven't found them again easily. It didn't affect sustained speeds noticeably, though I noticed a slight variation for low QD random traffic between CPU and chipset lanes. That difference wasn't substantial enough to dismiss it as unimportant.
There are variations in latency and some QDs, but it’s not a significant issue. I paid for it and would like to receive the product.
