Looking for the top CPU to boost your Intel i5-4690K? Given your setup—32GB DDR3 RAM, GTX1080 Ti GPU, and heavy video editing—upgrading to a faster CPU would definitely help. For performance gains, consider an Intel Core i5-10400 or i5-11400 series, or a Ryzen 5 5600X if you're open to a different architecture. These options should bridge the gap and speed up your workflow.

4770K or 4790K are the sole choices available for that motherboard.

The i7 4790K is listed at $100 on eBay, matching the price of the i5 10400F. The Ryzen 5 3600 is priced between $75 and $85, though both models need a new motherboard. Upgrading to the 5000 series later would be beneficial if you choose the Ryzen 5 3600. The AM4 platform is nearing its end of life, but it can be upgraded in the future. Generally, spending more now won’t pay off unless you plan for significant performance gains.

The only viable choices are the 4770K and 4790K models, yet neither offers significant value on the used market. They just represent minor upgrades to your i5. It's smarter to invest in a full platform upgrade—such as a new CPU, RAM, or motherboard.

I purchased an i7 4790 plus with a good tower cooler for 60€. It performed better than the 4690 on Cinebench, and I’m pleased with the outcome. Playback in Davinci Resolve feels much smoother now, and the extra threads really helped. At this price, I’d save myself upgrading my system for another year or so. Thanks for all the help and advice!

You seemed unsure about seeking help, so you thought it would be enough to look up the answer yourself.
