Hi there,
I bought new gaming gear today and got an Intel i7 6700k CPU. I thought it was time to overclock it. It’s working at about 4.7Ghz with roughly 1.35 volts, but from what I’ve read online it could be harmful to the processor. Any advice on this?
My current setup:
- Intel i7 6700k
- Asus Z170 Sabertooth Mark 1
- 32GB DDR4 G. Skill RAM
- Corsair H50 watercooling
If you need more photos, I can share them. Thanks for your help!
*Update 1* I checked CPU-Z for core voltage and it showed 1.440V. That’s in a risky range, isn’t it?

As long as it stays under 75-80, everything's fine, and my 3570k is sitting at a staggering 47 idle XD

I’d keep it under 1.400 just to be safe, but voltage isn’t the biggest concern—just monitor the temperatures!

heavyartillary9 :
i plan to keep it under 1.400 just in case, but voltage isn't the main concern—just keep an eye on the temperatures!
my temps are hovering between 31-35*C, and they spike up to about 50-60 when I stress it.
my old CPU (i5 4690k) usually idled around 27*C, which is why i'm a bit concerned.
appreciate the advice!
