Will the price reach 7800x3d at the Intel i7 13th gen launch? Will it boost productivity more than previous models? (Intel clearly outperforms 7700x/7600x.) Should I wait and see? If Intel is the top pick for desktops and gaming, I’ll order DDR5 RAM right now.

There's a good part of speculation, but : - 7800X3D will perform in games similarly to a 7950X (give or take a couple frames) so say max 10% over a 13700K - But outside of gaming 7800X3D will be 8P cores to 8P+8E cores; let's consider PCores are equivalent, E cores worth 70% of Pcores, then 13700k will be 70% more powerful - 7800X3D will be $450 to $400 for a 13700k Not even counting that 13700k will have OC room and can have faster RAM, seems 13700k wins easily on perf/price, but will be a tad behind in gaming ...

The two CPUs should likely fetch similar prices around the release of the 7800x3D (+/- $50). The Intel Core i9 will probably excel in tasks focused on productivity, while the 7800x3D is expected to shine in gaming (many reviewers suggest it’ll match the 7950X3D). Your choice hinges on your main goals—if gaming matters most, consider waiting a few more months to evaluate the x3D’s performance. After that, you can decide based on what you value most.

But I don’t need that much time. If 7800x3d doesn’t work for productivity, I’d prefer to buy it instead.

What you're mentioning sounds impressive—clearly a strong upgrade. If I can achieve similar results in games, then Intel definitely stands out as a top option. Since I'm new to this, I'm curious about Blender, photo editing, or video editing.

It depends on your timeline for getting the components. If your PC is already working well, you can wait without any issues. On the other hand, if you're not focused on gaming, you won't miss it—especially since the CPU isn't the biggest factor in performance. The decision is yours!

It's a significant difference, but that's what occurs when 8 fast cores paired with 8 slower ones compete against just 8 fast cores—plus the 3D cores will lag behind Intel's PCores. From a gaming standpoint, at 1080p with the 7950X3D it currently leads the 13900K by about 6% to 9%. I anticipate that the 7800X3D versus the 13700K will perform similarly in terms of overall results. In productivity, the 7800X3D is expected to be 5-10% slower than the 7700X, mainly due to lower clock speeds and minimal cache impact except in a few applications.

I'm setting up a new build and need to acquire the RTX 4080 or 7900 XTX in a few months (7900 XTX is less probable).

The i7 13th gen seems like a solid pick for you. If it’s under 7700x, you might notice some differences in editing and 3D rendering. As a complete new user, this could impact your experience.
