Hello, Your system runs an Intel i7 12700KF with a Corsair H150i Elite Capellix triple fan AIO water cooler. During a CPU stress test using prime95, the temperatures stayed between 60-70°C with boosted cores at around 4.9GHz and about 150W of power. After a short while, they rose to 95-100°C and power increased to roughly 250W, though it usually hovered near 200-220W. The processor also throttled down to 4.6GHz. I’m curious why the temps jumped so much despite the cooler’s high capacity. Didn’t expect such heat under those conditions. I confirmed using LGA 1700 standoffs and reworked the CPU twice, but nothing changed. The AIO’s software temperature reads about 37°C, which feels low given the CPU was overheating at 100°C. Could there be an issue with the BIOS settings? I installed the cooler at the top of the case, directing airflow from inside to the radiator and out through the top. When I touched the fans, I saw a lot of splashback—air being pushed back into the case. Online sources suggest fans struggle with radiators and that splashback isn’t a major concern, but it seemed excessive here. I’ve attached photos of the setup and temperature logs from HWmonitor (fans 1, 2, and 3 are connected to the AIO). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The 12700KF details indicate a maximum boost voltage of 190W, but it’s possible your rig is exceeding this due to other factors.

Start by reducing the CPU voltage then investigate the CPU cooler since issues may lie there.

250 watts will be tough to manage… my 10700k reaches around 220 and the custom loop starts struggling to keep up. I might look for a newer BIOS update and then disable any auto overclocking settings the motherboard has. It seems like it’s disregarding Intel specifications and cranking voltage too high. Alternatively, consider undervolting the system.

Is MCE active? That’s the only method I use to run over 200 watts without overclocking.

The "OC tuner" is set to keep current settings, which I haven’t adjusted before. The high power draw seems unusual; 250W isn’t typical. Can you tell me what BIOS setting controls this?

I initially skipped removing the plastic wrap from under the waterblock. Anyone could do that, I suppose. It might account for the low coolant temperature. However, it’s likely another issue. Since a 250W load exceeds what most coolers can handle—even top-tier AIOs—this could be the cause.

Requires a tailored loop using 2x360 radians or higher to manage 250W continuous output, access BIOS settings to cap PPT at 200W or restrict boost time.

I'm running the 150i on a 10900kf 5.1 setup with all cores at 1.29v load voltage. It's tough to maintain cooling during extended tests, usually around 220w per hwinfo64. Everyone agrees it's getting too hot.

I've always believed 360mm was just not sufficient for cooling 12900kf and could handle 12700k, TIL
