I work with video editing, motion graphics, photo editing, and some 3D renders. I also play AAA games at medium settings in 1440p occasionally. I’m thinking about purchasing an i7 10700K with an Asus Strix B460-G Gaming motherboard. I won’t be pushing the CPU beyond its limits. There are reports it gets too hot, which isn’t ideal. I’m considering the Ryzen 7 3700X and noticed it has similar cores but lower power consumption. But I had a bad experience with AMD before—my FX 8350 was a disaster, and its performance lagged behind my old i5 6500. That left me with doubts. No reviews mention the 3700X in real use, only benchmarks or gaming tests. Plus, some users report odd temperatures even when idle, and I’m unfamiliar with Ryzen. So I’m unsure and need advice. My budget is around $500-600 for CPU, motherboard, and cooler. I already have everything else in my setup. I want a system that’s fast, stable, and smooth for productivity apps, without worrying too much about cooling. I plan to stay with this setup for at least four years and probably won’t replace any parts. Thank you if you’ve read this.
if you are going to go with a b460 board with a 10700k, then i recommend the 3700x instead for ur use case. the 10700k is hotter than you think, even with the research, there will be problems. you can also wait for zen 3 if u want but for it to release then go in stock for country, might take awhile, ur call.
A new Ryzen model will be available in a month. AMD released the announcement today. It seems they’ll outperform what Intel currently provides. For clarity, the 3700X is more efficient, uses less power, and costs less—making it a better choice for the motherboard and cooler.
I have a 3700X, and if you need to render, switch to Ryzen. If you're patient, go for the Ryzen 5000 for a better CPU or lower prices.
I rely on GPU rendering, so I'm uncertain about Ryzen's role. Do you use Adobe applications? If so, please share your performance experience compared to Intel processors.
Check Puget Systems' blog for updates on the 3700X. They test a wide range of CPUs and GPUs using professional workloads, rendering tasks, machine learning, and Adobe tools. A complete list is available here: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articl...ries-1535/
