Hey everyone, I recently purchased a used CPU, applied thermal paste correctly, and in BIOS it's set to 100°C. When I play games in 1-2 minutes, is that normal? Any advice or experiences from others would be great!

Are you considering boosting performance? Checking fan settings? What cooling solution are you using? Make sure everything is installed properly. The 6600K hitting 100°C is unusual—you seem aware of it, but no helpful details were given.

Could it be adjusted for higher performance by default? I installed it without changing anything, but the cooler isn’t helping. It seems the stock unit might not fit properly, so it could still work but with limitations. (I’m really worried, please don’t think I’m asking too much)

If you connected the fan header, it should operate normally, but if the plastic clips lack sufficient grip, the cooler might not touch properly. It’s good to reattach it so every clip is fully in place and inspect for any wear or damage, as they aren’t very sturdy.

Launching the system into BIOS immediately means it’s already at 100°C or warming up. Check for any signs of damage like marks on the CPU that suggest it might have been removed and reinserted. The cooler and motherboard you’re using will affect the temperature and performance.

The cooler was placed correctly on the CPU, but I encountered an issue a few weeks back.

it varies, when I first used it it felt slightly warm but stayed around 83°C. There wasn’t anything like that before. The website where I bought it seems reliable in my country. It’s a stock cooler for an Intel Pentium G4560, and the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA H110 D3.

It sounds like a bad mount, if it spikes up like that with no load on it.

I understand your perspective. @OP seems to be relying on the stock intel cooler, but they tend to have reliability issues. Keep an eye on the studs on the heat sink and verify there are no damages. It’s possible the G4560 cooler won’t perform well compared to the one that came with the 6600k—this model might be thicker or contain a copper slug. If the replacement doesn’t resolve the thermal problems, the cooler likely won’t meet expectations. The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo offers strong performance at a low cost, so it would be worth considering if your findings hold true.

It seems like you're describing a situation where the cheap stock coolers are damaged. The PC case had to be lowered to keep everything secure.
