Hello, I'm searching for a CPU suitable for a PC build that handles both gaming and scientific software. I'm considering the 14700 series, specifically the F variant which is £50 cheaper than the K. While it was assumed the main difference was the absence of integrated graphics, the spec sheets show a notable decrease in base clock speed (2.1Ghz vs 3.4Ghz) and a slightly lower boost frequency (5.4Ghz vs 5.6Ghz). Is this enough to make the 14700F a viable option? Could it really impact performance significantly?
Two factors are involved, K or not, F or not. Parts with K have a stronger power ceiling and a higher base clock. They might be more efficiently grouped for greater boost too. F refers to the iGPU version. Running non-K in a motherboard setup with unlimited power limits should make them act almost alike. The base clock matters mainly when you cap TDP.
With the additional efficiency cores, it looks like a solid option for scientific research—especially if you can utilize all of them. You might also want to look into the 7800X3D for its superior power efficiency if that matters to you.
