Recently relocated house (UK) virgin media (VM) brought us a fresh package. The new home features an optical cable running through the wall, and the prior occupants left an Adtran 621 unit. The VM box doesn’t connect with either the Adtran box or the other cable I imagined that would fit directly into the router. There was no option to use any of the other cables—like insulator cable—with the wall cable I received. I tried using the Adtran box and Ethernet cable into the VM router for about 30 minutes yesterday, but it stopped working afterward. I’m unfamiliar with optical network boxes, so I’m curious if anyone could explain what they handle or what they can’t. Best regards, Dan

Optical fiber providers typically place an optical/router box in your home. At that stage, you either connect your computer directly or (better) link your router to access more ports and Wi-Fi via the fiber connection. Personally, if the company offers a service I can't use due to lack of support, I'd consider disputing the chargeback and switch to another provider.
