I'm feeling really upset. I've been attempting to set up Ubuntu 16.10 on my Acer Aspire E 15 with a Windows partition. Every time I start the installer from USB, the screen shows strange messages like "What is this?" I've rebooted into the installer and reinstalled it on the USB, but the problem keeps happening. When I try to open Ubuntu directly, the same issues appear. I can still see the text clearly, so should I just continue with the installation? Will this affect the operating system afterward? And please, no—those messages aren't being highlighted by my mouse.

Your specs are: a 1TB HDD with AMD A9-9410, dual-core Turbo Core up to 3.5GHz, AMD Radeon R5 M340 GPU, and 2GB VRAM with 8GB DDR4 RAM.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Similar to mint? Yet Ubuntu might offer broader backing?

Great! I'll attempt to install it and follow the suggestions from the thread.

Mint is merely a modified version of Ubuntu. I’d prefer Fedora instead.

Check out Ubuntu Man for the best operating system available. Simply reinstall it, ensure you have the correct ISO file and a stable internet connection during setup.

Yeah, if it doesn't fix it I cannot encourage you enough to post on Ubuntu's official support forum... When I say they have the best most informed users, they really do. They'll tell you what the problem is and tell you how to fix it. Honestly the best community support forum, even over Microsofts.
