You can, and as long as the sticks are the same in terms of the memory chips and timings, they should work. There's no guarantee that the memory chips will be the same, even with the same brand and model, but it's likely. Buying a 2x8GB kit would be ideal, but if the pricing doesn't make sense, it could be a worthwhile risk to try getting 2 individual 8GB sticks.
It's fine if the details match precisely—capacity, speed, voltage, CL, and all timing aspects. We usually receive a dual-channel setup to prevent mismatches.
