It seems there is a 4 head limit to the active display server, per stackexchange responses I've found. Best bet is a kvm/qemu in 4K then splitting that 4k feed across 4 FHD 1080p monitors, I think. Luckily, level1Tech has just the thing. Its a hack for now but I'm sure new wayland is focused on lifting these limitations.

I won't go through all the comments. Why does Ubuntu feel less user-friendly now? Installing a driver for NVIDIA support requires opening the terminal, adding the PPA, and updating apt. You should see an option for dual monitors. It's been a while since I used Ubuntu, so I'm not sure how it works anymore. If it's not available, I can't help with master and slave GPUs because Sli is no longer supported. I'm only comfortable with two GPUs and one at a time.

This situation is happening again with my setup. I have an HD 6450 and a GT 1030, but I can't access the secondary display—it's stuck on the systemd prompt. This wasn't true before I switched to an AMD GPU. Back then I used a GTX Titan Black (needs baking) and a 1030 as the secondary. I still recall it working fine with the HD 6450 as the secondary.
