Installing an SSD in an older desktop computer
I've reviewed your message again. It's about ensuring both drives use the same partitioning method, either MBR or GPT. Your HDD uses MBR and you selected GPT for the SSD, which is correct. This matters because compatibility issues can arise if they differ. You should confirm the format before using the tool to avoid problems.
Macrium expressed concerns about the hard disk size when it had empty space. A solution was discovered using the clean command, which worked better than disk management under Windows and also allowed conversion to MBR. Despite this, Macrium still complains about the size (450GB for 300GB roughly) when all partitions are selected, so cleaning up more GB from the HDD disk is being considered.
What is the dimensions of the Target drive?
How much room does the Source drive occupy?
A snapshot from Disk Management would be useful.
Hdd disk 277gb used after removing 20gb, the new ssd has 447gb free
Found that skipping the system recovery partition, which is about 12gb, stops the complaints about sizes. Deleted the 20GB without any change. Curious about cloning without it.
Or... using Acronis? It doesn’t complain much. The interface is simpler, Macrium seems better, but I’m unsure how to proceed (deleting or copying to an external drive is slow and risky on my old PC).
