I'm moving into a new home soon (after the pandemic) and am considering upgrading my WiFi setup. I'm not after a basic consumer model. Linus mentioned a professional system he installed, which really made a difference—I'm curious about that unless it's too pricey. While it will cost more than standard mesh systems, I'm open to paying for better performance. Could you recommend some solid, reasonably priced options? I also saw a video about Ubiquiti's Dream Machine; it looks promising with lots of features and an intuitive interface. I'd prefer an all-in-one device since buying multiple separate units isn't ideal. Also, if the professional setup doesn't work out, what consumer-friendly alternatives would you suggest? Thanks!

Your current operating hours could be expanded with several entry points. I think the Unifi system would be a good fit—check their access point options. Regarding the router, please share your speed details and any specific needs you have.

The house is approximately 3000 square feet. I expect to install a 200 Mbps network, and since I have several IoT devices, a reliable connection is essential. I’m also planning to set up a Plex server later on. In short, my current WiFi performance isn’t great, but I need fast Ethernet speeds. All rooms already have Ethernet cables, so one access point should suffice for most of the setup, as everything will be hardwired.

I think using 2 or 3 access points works well for this house size, helping boost speeds in various areas. You’ll need a gigabit switch—most tasks will handle it unless you require 10GbE. PoE is definitely a plus if you plan to use it.

The access point you're interested in is available on the store. For switching, you can use a full Unifi system which offers an easy-to-use interface, or switch to another brand. To go with a complete Unifi setup: https://store.ui.com/products/unifiswitch-24-250w. If you prefer a router, they provide models with built-in controllers and additional features at https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-n...ts/udm-pro. For budget-friendly options, check the router collection here: https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-n...-switching

I documented my Ubiquiti configuration here. If I were building it now, I’d opt for a Dream Machine Pro instead of the USG, though it’s performed well so far. AP Pros offer great value, though they don’t match the 5GHz capability of nanoHD. Most devices lack the 3x3 MIMO feature needed to reach those speeds anyway.
