Hello everyone. I'm attempting to set up Windows 8.1 on a brand new SSD connected via USB, but I'm encountering an issue when trying to select the SSD as the installation drive. The error message says it couldn't create a new partition or find an existing one. I've verified the boot order, AHCI is enabled, all connections are working, and the USB drive is correctly placed in a USB 2.0 slot. I used DiskPart to format and partition the drive, yet the problem persists. I'm unsure what else might be causing this.

Open DiskPart, choose the drive, enter "clean," then proceed to install. Instead of manually creating partitions, pick the SSD that hasn't been partitioned and click next immediately.

Do you have another machine? If yes, just set up Windows there and after the first restart, turn it off completely before putting it back in. Then finish the installation.

Confirm if your motherboard supports SSD usage.

If the drive appears, simply remove it and restart the system. You should be able to reinstall afterward.

The SSD appears in the BIOS, and you've switched to AHCI. Are there any additional configurations you need to adjust?
