I just put in a Ryzen 5 3600X with a new graphics card. I moved from an I7 7700K on a MSI H110M gaming card to this R5 3600X with a ROG STRIX B450-f. Starting up takes some time and I notice the CPU LED turns red for three seconds then goes off, but a yellow light appears on the DRAM indicator for three seconds. After a few tries, the VGA light comes on green and everything boots properly. However, my files don’t show previews and some apps on my dock don’t display their logos—just an empty space where I click to launch. I also installed ASUS Grid but it crashes when I try to install any of the apps listed there. I also added RYZEN Master via Google, but it doesn’t open. Edit: My file explorer shows one drive as NTFS and says 0 bytes of 250GB free. I can still open games on that drive labeled NTFS.
You're checking if your old boot drive will still function after upgrading to the new motherboard. That's correct—your current drive should work unless you've replaced it entirely. After installing the new CPU and motherboard, a fresh OS installation might be necessary for optimal performance.
Everything functions properly, but you're curious about shortening the startup time. The LED indicators on your motherboard seem to signal progress, though the exact meaning isn't clear. It appears the CPU and VGA lights change colors in sequence, and the boot LED flashes green once everything seems ready. This behavior might be normal, but if you notice any unusual patterns or delays, it could help to check for firmware updates or hardware issues.
