Installation fails on a fresh device due to freezing during setup.
I have been trying to load windows (pro x64) on my computer, but I can't seem to get past the activation screen where I enter my product key. This seems to be very similar to the following, with the exception of where the install is getting stuck. This is a brand new build with a clean install. Below are the specs: ASUS TUF Gaming Z590 Plus (updated to latest BIOS) MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Core i9 10th Gen Comet Lake 10-Core GSkill Ripjaws V Series (4 x 16 BG) WD Black SN850 M.2 2280 1TB (connected on M2_3 per size) I HAVE loaded Debian on this no problem, so I know the hardware is working, but I can't, for the life of me, get past this activation screen. As soon as I either enter a product key or click "I don't have a product key", the install seems to freeze. I say seems to freeze because the mouse is still responsive, and the green progress bar does still flash white - so they system is not locked up. But they keyboard is no longer responsive and I can't exit. I have let this sit for about 30 minutes, and I am wondering if I should just let it sit longer as the above poster did. My only concern here is that nothing has actually installed yet... so I feel like it shouldn't lock up here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Proceed without triggering activation once the installation is complete.
Download and set up a fresh installation using the media tool from Microsoft, preferably on a brand-new USB drive. If the Windows files are damaged or won’t work, try this alternative setup.
I also attempted this several times using various formats (FAT32 Large versus NTFS). I haven’t used a separate USB drive—just one is available. I did format it and install Debian on it successfully, but I think it would be better to test another USB. I’ll try again and update later.
After experimenting more, I observed unusual behavior when moving the mouse over specific areas of the screen. It was quite peculiar and difficult to detect—like the link "I don't have a product key" didn’t respond to hovering. Additionally, clicking anywhere on the interface seemed to freeze it. Switching to a different mouse resolved the issue completely. This new mouse is now perfect. Thanks to everyone who responded!
