Installation failed for OS X Mavericks on your laptop.
Hello everyone yesterday I planned to perform a bootjack on my laptop. Here are the details: Dell Inspiron 3451 with Intel Pentium n3540, Bay Trail 2.16GHz, up to 2.66 quad-core (ultra low voltage), 4GB DDR3 RAM (likely Ivy Bridge graphics). I installed Niresh Mavericks DMG and used TransMac (Win32diskimage) to restore my USB stick with the Dmg image. I verified the BIOS settings: AHCI mode enabled, Secure Boot disabled, tried UEFI and Legacy but nothing worked. I attempted to boot via USB by pressing F12 to select it, which briefly displayed two words for about a third of a second before rebooting. I tested various BIOS configurations on my desktop PC, which succeeded (it had an older Pentium E5300 dual-core). A friend suggested downloading a patch kernel, and I found one that should work for Baytrail CPUs. I copied it to the USB image using Transmac but it didn’t function properly. I’m not confident I’ll be able to boot this laptop without using Mavericks, and I don’t want to rely on virtualization. I hope there’s a solution, and I’m still very new to this. Thanks in advance.
The likelihood of success on a laptop remains very low due to Apple's strict hardware requirements. Have you considered using the verbose boot option when installing the software? That’s probably your best shot at resolving issues beforehand.
You're asking about entering a specific command when using the verbose boot option, but the system doesn't support typing it directly. You need to use the appropriate key combination or menu option to activate the verbose mode.
Have you finally reached the Apple logo, or is it just restarting from a blank screen?
I’m having trouble accessing the Apple logo. When I plug in the USB drive, I see a brief message screen that appears for about a third of a second before the system restarts.
Sure thing! Let me know if you'd like to try another distribution. Thanks!
You might manage around alternative boot options, though Niresh seems to handle most settings himself. It's unclear exactly how many you can modify. I usually stick with Clover or Tony Mac methods, but both require another Mac for setup. Once you have the install media, it works well long-term because you'll have a functional Hackintosh for future upgrades.
Sorry, starting that Pentium CPU isn't feasible. Notebooks with Core CPUs are manageable.
