Installation error during Windows 7 USB setup: CD/DVD drive driver not found.
I encountered the same issue while attempting to set up Windows 7. I own a retail copy of Windows packaged on an external USB 2.0 drive. After searching online, I found two solutions: disconnect the device and use a different port, or confirm it isn’t USB 3.0 since Windows 7 doesn’t support it. My current setup uses an Asus Z170 Deluxe motherboard with only USB 3.0 ports, and I have a USB 3.0 stick and a spare SATA drive. Could using the SATA drive instead help me install Windows?
If needed, I resolved the issue. A spare SATA drive can help. 1) Create an ISO from your Windows 7 disk (search for DVD to ISO tools). 2) Link a SATA drive via a USB dock. Use Rufus ISO at https://rufus.akeo.ie to transfer the ISO and enable booting. 3) Plug the SATA drive into your PC using the SATA port. 4) Attach the installation drive you wish to install Windows on. 5) Start from the installer disk you prepared. 6) Windows will install directly from the hard drive, treating it as an optical disc, eliminating USB driver issues.
