You can connect it to another machine, but you’ll need to install the appropriate drivers for Windows 8.1 on that computer. The default ones come with the OS, but they might not work properly without proper setup.

It depends on the updated board, but you could enter safe mode and apply suitable drivers from there.

Win8 isn't as stable with hardware updates as Win10. It could fail to start, and your Windows might shut down. If you have an OEM license, you can't reinstall it because the activation is tied to the original hardware.
