No one has ever shared their attempts to turn an external SSD into a Windows installer, especially on a system where the boot drive is also an SSD. From USB 3.0 flash drives to built-in SSDs, it generally takes around seven minutes. I’m curious about how long it would be with an external SSD—maybe I’ll share my results later!

I tried it before using an older SSD, and it was incredible. I was mainly familiar with CD installs, but this one felt fast—under 10 minutes. A decent USB stick wouldn’t be much behind, as you mentioned.

Installing Windows on a virtual machine with the install media and guest on a RAM drive presents unique challenges. The installation process must adapt to the temporary nature of the guest OS, often requiring specialized tools or scripts to manage the setup effectively.
