Just download it right away. The migration tool is great, and Magician does a solid job optimizing the drive. I do this on my rigs.

Yes, that's correct. You're referring to working with DL magician and setting up the software disk that comes with the SSD.

The software disk includes just the magician software? I'm not sure, since I don't usually bother with the disk.

It seems you're suggesting installing the disk for data migration. Magician is fine, but I'd advise downloading from the website to get the latest version.
