Hello everyone, I'm starting to assemble a new PC and it's been a while since my last build. I'm curious about the drivers needed after installing Windows—besides the motherboard and graphics drivers, I've seen mentions of chipset drivers. Since I'm planning an i5 11600K with a Z590 board and an ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero, should I install those chipset drivers? Where can I find them? I've been searching without much success. Thanks!

Apart from your GPU drivers, just download what's available from your motherboards download page that you actually need and that Windows didn't install for you. I think new people to building PC's hugely overthink this process. Its been a while since I did an Intel build but on AMD there is a chipset driver you get from AMD after a quick google but its also available on the motherboards support page, though its potentially a version or two older. What exact motherboard are you going to be using?

Ensure you download the chipset drivers for your system. Find them on the motherboard support site. Choose the operating system you plan to use, as they should appear there. Windows 11 drivers might be available soon once the OS is more stable. Here’s the link for the ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero you mentioned: https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog...k_download. Also, remember to install the chipset, audio, network, and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi drivers when needed.

I also do it a lot. Exhale. It happened right after Z590.

It can happen when I forget the initial message and forget something important.

Windows 10 and likely Windows 11 will handle driver updates automatically. I’d stick to GPU drivers unless there’s an issue. Manual installation is only needed when necessary.

Thank you! I noticed chipset drivers listed on the motherboard's drivers section, but also saw someone downloading them from Intel's site on YouTube, which made me a bit confused.

Sure thing! It’s fine if you go with the Intel drivers rather than the motherboard’s site, as long as they’re reliable. I’ve done this before with my Intel setup.
