I'm facing issues starting Windows from USB drives. The Windows logo doesn't spin at all, even after switching drives and using .iso files. I've tried different USBs and even installed Windows on a virtual machine on another PC. Placing the HDD in a VM still doesn't fix the problem. My Thinkpad x60s runs Windows 7 and Linux well, but it seems Windows 10 is no longer supported. It's possible Windows has changed its behavior for older systems. The 32-bit version of the ISO should work, but I haven't reset the BIOS yet. The HDD and USB lights come on briefly, but the logo stays stuck.

Can it boot from a Linux live USB? Also, was the USB set up with the right configurations for your OS—specifically, MBR works with both BIOS and UEFI, and GPT should be set as UEFI without using CSM?

It works perfectly, all settings are in place. The ISO loads into Windows 7 just like Linux, and the MBR is properly formatted.

You're considering Windows 10 as a possibility. If it's already installed, a "refresh" might give you a fresh setup experience instead of a full clean install from scratch.

I used to have Windows 10 three months ago, then added Windows 7 on top of it. Now the fresh 10 .iso won’t even start. I tried updating from Windows 7 and got a message saying “can’t verify compatibility.” My thought is that something changed and Windows 10 isn’t working anymore. Edited February 1, 2019 by Guest

Yes, you can still access Windows 7 through certain methods like using older versions of software or virtual machines.

I saved the Windows 10 again three times, covering both x32 and x64 versions. No older Windows 10 ISO was downloaded, so it seems the latest updates aren’t compatible with my system anymore.

I understand, I’ve been fixing my PC for a long time, and after pulling out a RAM stick it functioned properly! From what I see, your computer might just lack the power to run Windows 10 (this happened when I swapped cards for a GTX 275). With a laptop it’s a different story. If you have extra space on a drive, you could back up all your files, wipe it clean, and reinstall everything. Also, keep in mind there could be background programs slowing things down.
