Some versions don’t work well with Ryzen when using four dimms. Also, handling four dimms puts a heavy demand on the Zen+ memory controller.

Ah, I didn't realize that. What really baffles me is that both my friend and I share the same motherboard and RAM, yet everything works perfectly—except for my system which never exceeds 2733.

the motherboard bios is current yes, i fixed it today after realizing it was outdated and i’m not sure if his are identical but since he’s not very tech-savvy he probably doesn’t want to risk damaging anything by removing them.
