GPU operated smoothly after several hours in the furmark. The motherboard had two slots (one with a channel) that were faulty—booted only when the farthest slots from the CPU were used. The CPU seems fine; I recall having a similar HP prebuilt at work, but it refused to boot with it, suggesting a possible memory channel issue might also be present. Thanks for the advice!
