The connector is designed with 9 holes, but the 10th hole is intentionally blocked—it serves as a key. This ensures the connector fits only in one orientation within the header. USB 2 uses just four wires: voltage, data, data plus, and ground. With two ports, eight wires are utilized. A ninth wire typically connects to ground.

Observe the cable connector's design with five holes at the top and four at the bottom. Notice the headers featuring five pins at the top and four at the bottom. You connect it to the header (either side) ensuring the five pins match the five holes and the four pins align with the four holes. It's straightforward. If it fails, there must be an error in your setup. More details about the issue would help further.

You can insert it into either of those two headers. Both options work perfectly.

The device needs a bit of pressure to insert, I didn’t realize the force required would be higher than expected
