My friend started using his computer today and it failed to connect online, showing an error about "Hamachi" not having a valid IP configuration. We previously used Hamachi for a game, so I suggested uninstalling it and resetting the PC. After that, the error disappeared but now it prompts him to connect an Ethernet cable, even though he already has one. He’s been using the same PC for nearly a year without any internet problems. Yesterday Spectrum experienced a major outage, and since he has a Spectrum account, I’m unsure if that caused the issue. This is his first time encountering this problem, and I’m not very experienced with internet troubleshooting. I searched online for solutions but found nothing effective, though it seems the fix might be specific to the right issue. We tested the cable with his Xbox, which worked perfectly. If he needs an Ethernet adapter, it shouldn’t matter, but whether it can be resolved would save money if true. He also has a Final exam coming up soon, making this timing especially stressful. His PC runs Windows 10, and he’s still getting connections on his phone and other devices, but not on the PC. I’m happy to share any advice or steps you’d like me to pass along. Thanks!

I might head to sleep soon, which means if I don’t respond, I’ll experience everything upon waking and stay active.

Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet, scroll further and select Network Reset. The system will restart then function correctly.

I think the video he viewed suggested changing his router password, but it might not be necessary for everyone. It depends on the situation and what he's using it for.

He might require a WiFi password because it secures the router's web interface, ensuring only authorized access. An Ethernet cable issue doesn't impact this protection. Changing the password won't alter stored credentials, though resetting the network clears them.

He performed the reset but the issue persisted. He still insists the Ethernet cable must be connected.

Inspect the cable on a different device to confirm the issue isn't with the original one.
