Security patches are also available, just like for GPU drivers, and they matter. When you update, aim for the newest version right away. If the new release is fresh, wait about a week or two to check for any issues before proceeding, but after a few weeks it should be safe. You can also stick with the motherboard manufacturer's latest version. I tend to choose the newest from AMD, though the vendor ensures compatibility, so rare problems are unlikely.
