Inquiry about Xeon X5460 processor
It seems the Xeon model is probably from roughly nine years prior, and your graphics cards match that era. The overclock might make a difference, as Photoshop benefits from a quicker CPU.
Based on the support available, additional memory can make a difference, though only slightly. Your system is quite outdated and approaching its CPU limits. Using an SSD for photo storage or rendering would be beneficial, especially if your image files are large. By the way, your English is clear.
I suggest a solid LGA 771 motherboard (if your system supports it) and an X5355 chipset. You already have two X5355 boards, and they perform excellently.
Thanks for your responses. Money isn't available at the moment because I got married and everything changed, but I don’t regret it. This is my work computer, and I was trying to use what I have. I’ll look for some DDR3 sticks just like I do now and see if that helps. I just finished installing a 240GB Corsair SSD, and it’s faster than before...
A X5355 is about $30 in the US, though I received it for free after discovering it in an e-waste bin.
Your x5460 runs at 3.16GHz, but some users note it feels slower. Could be due to software updates, thermal throttling, or background processes affecting performance. Check system logs or benchmarking for more details.
Experts suggest a mid-range upgrade for your Xeon 5460. Given your existing setup with 1600 memory and a case, you could boost performance without overspending. The 771/775 conversion typically refers to adjusting BIOS settings or memory timings, not hardware changes. It’s applied to the CPU configuration rather than the memory modules themselves.
