Inquiry about USB ports on MSI Tomahawk B550
For your needs, the B550 should definitely cover everything. The main worry was the USB connection, which I'm still figuring out. I plan to get a 3600/3700 board soon and might upgrade later to a 5600x. The PCI issues don’t seem too pressing right now—just the occasional back-end I/O that’s been confusing. The two LAN ports on the B550 Tomahawk aren’t something I’d use, and it feels like the extra PCI-E 4 lanes on the X570 are overkill for my setup. What would you recommend if you were in my shoes? Thanks a lot!
The rear I/O variation and USB port count are almost negligible. I’d choose the B550 board. The X570 is the older model, lacking a second Ethernet port. More devices now include a second Ethernet connection. Previously, 1Gb Ethernet was standard, but with fiber optics becoming widespread, speeds now often surpass 1Gb at home. Additionally, NAS and similar equipment are more common today than they were ten years ago. Sometimes this is just marketing hype—“AmaZinG 2.5 Gb Ethernet! WooOOooW!” It’s a strong selling point!
Got it! You're excited about the B550 Tomahawk and found a great deal. Thanks for sharing the details and the helpful tips. Stay safe and enjoy your purchase!
