I'm planning to assemble a new PC using Windows 8 in roughly three weeks and I was wondering if it's possible to swap the motherboard without requiring an additional product key.

As long as you keep the hard drive unchanged, everything works fine. But if you modify it, you must reactivate with the key you currently possess.
