Inquiry about the HP Pro 3400 MT motherboard (Foxconn 2ABF) and assistance with BIOS setup.
I’ve already reached out to the HP forums for assistance, but the responses have been slow and not very specific. I’m trying to upgrade my HP Pro 3400 MT with a Xeon E3-1220 and an HD 7950 graphics card. The idea is to fit it into the existing motherboard, since most models aren’t UEFI enabled—this often causes GPU issues.
My main concerns are about compatibility: will the new motherboard work with the Xeon? I’ve received mixed feedback, mostly saying yes, but I need more certainty. Regarding my BIOS, I’ve been trying to upgrade to version 7.16 using the bundled launcher, but I’m hitting an error saying the command lines weren’t parsed. After the update attempt, the BIOS stays at 7.14, even though I’m using a 64-bit version of Windows. I attempted to flash the BIOS through the BIOS menu, but the official guide doesn’t mention that option.
I also noticed that both Pro 3300 and Pro 3500 models have a BIOS flashing feature, even though they share the same board. I found some online info suggesting this might be available in the newer BIOS versions (like 7.16). My question is: if I could update my BIOS from within it, would that affect my motherboard upgrade?
That platform won't accept the Xeon even after a BIOS upgrade. The H61 chipset is heavily limited since it's an original equipment manufacturer unit. The quickest processor available will still be an i7-2600, which fits onto this board. Best of luck!
