Using memory in single-channel halves your bandwidth essentially. For your setup, combining 4+4 is preferable to just 8 because it offers dual-channel performance rather than single-channel. It wouldn't help much if you already have two 8GB modules, since stacking four 8GB sticks would still function as dual-channel at best. In short, adding another 8GB stick—like the one you already possess—should improve performance noticeably in most tasks, especially during gaming. Also, for casual gaming, a 32GB is unnecessary; 16GB should suffice for gaming and running multiple apps smoothly.

He clarified the point. Working more efficiently together is better than using just one stick of RAM. Simply add another stick of the same amount you already have. You’ll reach 16 and everything will remain excellent.
