You would likely need to reinstall Windows 10 completely, including the OS and drivers, if you activate it later with a key or digital license. The free version comes with a USB drive, but you should remove it once activated to avoid conflicts.

It requires the license for the same Windows edition you installed (Home, Pro, etc.). This is essentially a free download of the installer from Microsoft. You shouldn't need to activate it.
