Inquiries regarding the transition to 13900k.
Hi, I’m looking to upgrade my CPU and have a few questions. Your current specs show the 13900k is quite hot. Are you worried about your AIO cooling system? You’re using a Corsair iCUE H115i RGB PRO XT cooler—should it handle that temperature? Regarding the Z790, does it justify the extra cost compared to the Z690? And will your PSU (the Corsair HX1000i Platinum) support the power requirements? Thanks in advance for your help. Miklós
Up to now, I've noticed very little AIO can handle 13900K well when running continuously. It feels more like a high-end CPU in my view. The Z790 is quite similar to the Z690 – see this comparison: https://geekawhat.com/z790-vs-z690-mothe...fferences/ With the RTX 4090, it might actually be the top performance Corsair you need.
Understood. Glad I could help. This information is useful for rendering tasks.
This was intended to avoid purchasing an incorrect item. Feel free to test your existing cooler, though I question its effectiveness for a 13900k with no full-boost enhancement. The suggested minimum cooler right now is a liquid freezer II 360.
I noticed the 13900k can get quite warm. I'm a bit worried about my AIO. I'm currently using a Corsair iCUE H115i RGB PRO XT cooler. Will it be able to cope? (Corsair provided screws for the LGA-1700 socket) Is the Z790 worth the investment or should I opt for a Z690? Should I stick with a PSU like the Corsair HX1000i Platinum? Can it handle the power needs?
1. It does get hot, but if you're mainly gaming you should be okay. I have an H150i with fans set low (950 RPM) and I usually stay between 65-80°C during games. If you're doing more demanding tasks beyond gaming, you'll throttle, just like my 360mm.
2. The Z790 supports PCI-E Gen 5 M.2 drives and can manage faster DDR5 OC speeds. I picked the Z690 since I didn't expect needing those features soon, but if they matter for you, go with the Z790.
3. If you choose the Z690, your motherboard will need a BIOS update to support the 13th generation CPU. Make sure you get one with BIOS flashback capability, so you can update without a CPU installed. (Or you could use a 12th gen board and boot it for updates, but that's not ideal.)
To sum up, I have experience with many 13900K/4090 builds online using 1000W PSUs, so I'm confident it should work. Just do some more research before deciding.
Thanks! It made a big difference. Let me know if you need anything else!
