Inquiries on WiFi 6 PCIe card and Optiplex 790 SFF specifications
Hello everyone! Please accept my apologies if this isn't the right place for this query, as I'm still getting familiar with everything. Nonetheless, I have a question about the PCIe WiFi 6 card mentioned—specifically the TP-Link model you linked—as well as other PCIe WiFi 6 cards in general. Would this card work with an older Optiplex 790 SFF motherboard? I’m not sure why it wouldn’t, but I know older technology can behave oddly, especially with some non-standard Dell components. If these cards are compatible, is the one you referenced a solid choice? If not, do any of you have recommendations for better options? My setup is customized, so installing the router in my office isn’t feasible, and I’d love to see faster speeds compared to using a USB dongle. The board is housed in a custom enclosure, which means space isn’t an issue. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!
It should work with PCIe in a backward-compatible way, possibly running slower depending on the port used. That’s the main thing I understand.
