Hello.
I just finished cleaning my PC, just like I do each year, and I have some questions.
At first, the game ran smoothly, but then the performance dropped noticeably—feeling quite slow. I discovered a solution by using Quick CPU, which helped park all cores and prioritized physical cores, making better use of my i7 13700KF (i5-13700K).
The temperatures stayed between 54 and 58°C.
My game started fine but later the temps rose by 2 to 3 degrees, causing it to freeze again during play.
With Quick CPU, the Power Usage would not exceed 100W.
I noticed that after cleaning, the thermal paste on the CPU changed—removing it made it look like it hadn’t been applied properly before.
After turning it back on, the game runs much better, though it now gets hotter.
I reached temperatures up to 68 and even 73°C. The CPU’s TDP is now above what I expected, sometimes hitting 138W.
I think I applied a decent amount of paste, spreading it evenly with a small spatula and adding a tiny rice grain in the middle for better distribution.
Someone can tell me if this change is beneficial or not. Even though I know this CPU handles higher temps, it seems the package could naturally increase its power consumption.
I’m unsure whether running hotter is a problem or not.
Additionally, Quick CPU and Armory Crate give different readings: Armory Crate shows 61°C, while Quick CPU shows 68–72°C.
Also, here’s my full setup:
CPU: i7 13700KF
Cooler: Noctua NH D15 chromax
Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING Z790 Plus Wifi DDR5
RAM: G skill Trident Z5 RGB 2 x 16GB DDR5 @6000MHz
GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming OC RTX 4080
SSD: Seagate Firecuda 520 1TB
Power Supply: Asus Rog Thor 850W 80+ Plat
Everything is neatly arranged in a clean BeQuiet Dark Base 900Rev 2 case.

Hey there,
I’m avoiding QuickCPU right now because it might make things harder to understand what’s happening.
Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs tend to overheat, which is their design. They aim to deliver the best performance possible while staying within thermal limits.
What kind of thermal paste did you apply to the CPU? When you run benchmarks, does your CPU score match that of other CPUs with the same specs?
Running at 73°C isn’t ideal for a CPU or GPU workload—especially for tasks like gaming. It’s still quite low, so I’d feel better knowing it’s manageable.
What BIOS version are you using?

Hey
Ok I guess I'll try running my game without having Quick CPU On see how it goes!
The thermal paste is the Noctua NT-H1 SW edition
And I haven't really run any Stress test actually, didn't think about it! Got any Free Stress test I forgot the name of the one I used last Time.
The Bios is Ver.1604

I recommend downloading HWInfo, as it is your monitoring tool. You can then run Cinebench R23 to simulate a full CPU load. For more rigorous assessments, consider using OCCT/Prime 95/Aida 64, which are designed for various testing scenarios.

Hey there
I gave it a shot without Quick CPU and everything worked just fine. Temperatures dropped about 10 to 12 degrees, the CPU draw stayed between 100 to 110 watts as usual, and the game ran smoothly.
I didn’t think about trying it after all the cleanup, but it’s great to know it helped.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Have a good day! 😀
