Initiating a Windows Server setup?
I've faced similar issues last month while setting up my own home server. I required several features: quick file storage with sharing and FTP, a VPN with NAT, a web server for learning web development, a torrent downloader, remote monitoring capabilities, a backup solution for my workstation, an Apple Time Capsule backup server (without purchasing the full system), and more. To address these needs, I chose Server 2012 R2 Essentials. My challenges were:
1) The automatic domain creation during installation was unnecessary for a personal server; I had to research ways to disable it.
2) Configuring the Apple Time Capsule backup server proved complex, so I moved it to a Hyper-V environment with Linux and used available documentation.
3) Remote monitoring required using AIDA 64 Software, which provided helpful troubleshooting tips.
Other aspects were mostly smooth, except for initial setup and server role configuration. Now everything functions perfectly.
