This might be related to a CMOS battery problem. Occasionally skipping power for a while can cause the system to reset, but it usually restarts quickly without lasting damage.

It might work. My old Dell Optiplex was left unused for quite some time, and the CMOS battery failed after about two years without power. It still functions fine, but it resets each time it powers off, requiring me to enter BIOS settings to fix it. After doing that, it works properly. Replacing a CMOS battery is generally straightforward and only costs a small amount, making it a reasonable first attempt.

Your PC starts working normally after resetting the BIOS, which suggests the issue might be linked to the CMOS battery. If the date and time also become incorrect, the battery could be failing. It’s draining the CMOS power, leading to BIOS corruption. This doesn’t pose a serious risk but prevents proper booting—just replace the battery.
