Hey, I wanted to give Linux a shot and chose Fedora since I’m a backend developer and work with it regularly. My setup includes a Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master (F32 BIOS), an AMD 7800X with an NVIDIA RTX 4080, plus a few other components. The system runs smoothly overall, except for a few bothersome problems. The biggest concern is that I can’t adjust the fan speeds properly—they keep running at a high, loud speed. After installing the drivers for my motherboard chip, I tried using sensors and sensors-detect, but nothing showed up. I followed the instructions and checked the fans via pwmconfig, but it didn’t save any changes. I also attempted to use fancontrol and Coolero, though they let me set curves, which sometimes updated the fan speed after applying. To be clear, the noise is really bothersome, and if this doesn’t get fixed, it might end up being a dealbreaker for me. Notes: 1. In Linux I lost any changes made through pwmconfig; in Windows it works perfectly. 2. My mouse gets huge and resizes back to normal with an animation—possibly a feature, not a bug. Also, my cursor behaves oddly at random times, maybe a missing setting?

It appears the community is still working through the functionality of these it86/it87xxx sensors, affecting not just your board but also other gigabyte models. The specific support thread for your board can be found at https://github.com/frankcrawford/it87/issues/15. It seems a single developer is trying to resolve this on their own schedule. Removing the it87 module might restore basic BIOS control, though voltage control remains uncertain. Ideally, hardware makers would provide direct support for Linux users.

You might want to explore CoolerControl and CoreCtrl to test different settings. Both offer a graphical interface for adjusting fan speeds and other parameters.

Thanks! It worked after removing the module and restoring BIOS control. Still a bit frustrating but functional. I’ve tried similar steps before, same results. There’s another issue with accessing my NVIDIA settings—my driver is installed, yet I can’t see the settings. Any suggestions? Found some info that might help, though it seems this might not work on Wayland. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for your patience! I’m really interested in giving Linux a try.

Only when using x11, it's a limitation of NVIDIA...

I own a Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX with 7700. I’ve been using fans for some time and eventually switched everything to BIOS settings, saving configurations before upgrading. It functions perfectly without any problems. My setup includes two front fans connected through a case splitter to one motherboard port, two CPU fans via another splitter, and the third fan in the rear port. I’m also running Fedora 40 with Nobara, and currently don’t have any fan control software installed. It worked well even when Mint was running.
