You're experiencing slow and unstable Steam downloads that seem inconsistent. It appears the speed drops unexpectedly, while the SSD usage stays high without progress. This is different from your experience with Epic Games, where speeds and storage are stable. The issue might be related to network conditions, background processes, or hardware performance. You may want to check your internet connection, close other applications, and consider restarting Steam or your PC to see if the problem persists.

Steam is initiating the download and extracting the game files from the same storage device.

Bonne chance !

The problem didn’t occur with the SSD itself; it’s likely a software-related issue within Steam.

It seems Epic Games is handling the download smoothly at very high speeds, reaching 50GB with sustained rates above 700 Mbps throughout. The storage device appears capable of retaining that much data over time, showing usage around 125MB/s and 70MB/s respectively in the task manager and games. Steam reported only about 10 MB/s, which might be misleading. A normal reading from Crystal Disk Mark also confirmed this behavior.

Epic doesn't download compressed files the way I understand it, whereas Steam does.

Unless your internet service provider is limiting Steam speeds, there isn’t a clearer reason. Try downloading a game on a different device with your regular connection.
