Finished my initial assembly and it functioned properly. I checked the BIOS, adjusted fan speeds, then powered it down. After some time, I rebooted with a Windows 11 USB stick installed. Fans began spinning again, producing a click sound before shutting off once more. It repeats continuously. I performed a RAM reseat, verified all cables are secure, and even cleared CMOS using a screwdriver. Still, the system remains unstable—only briefly shows the CPU light for a moment. Hardware details: Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus DDR5 Wi-Fi, i5-12600K, master cooler 212, and 650W PSU. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. *Update* After removing the GPU, a GTX6700XT worked; lights, fans, and everything stayed active. I can't connect a monitor to diagnose the issue but suspect cable mismatch or improper seating. **Ok** I removed the motherboard battery and swapped GPU cables—neither resolved the problem. Also tried extracting the GPU from its PCIe slot while keeping it plugged in; lights and fans still worked. Could this be an incorrect slot or connection? Updated January 4, 2023 by mickster1988

I didn't remove any plastic from the bottom of the CPU cooler during installation.

It could also be due to a faulty power source leading to automatic restarting

If you're okay with it, you might want to use the paperclip technique on the PSU to verify the issue isn’t there. You can look up how that works by searching online. Just unplug all other cables from your PC and avoid connecting it to the wall until you’re ready. Have you tried taking out the CMOS battery? I suspect it might be dead, not a broken connection.

I replaced it and applied the thermal paste from the cooler. I also had concerns about a CPU overheating, but from what I've learned, it doesn’t stay on long enough to cause heat issues.

I just attempted to remove the CMOS battery, but it didn’t work. It seems the lights and fans function when I take out the GPU, though swapping cables didn’t help. Maybe trying a different slot would be better, or perhaps I’m not applying enough pressure. It clicks, but I’m a bit worried about using too much force.

Just wanted to share a quick final update. I brought it into a shop and realized my 650W PSU wasn’t sufficient, so I upgraded to a 1000W refurbished Corsair PSU. It seems to be working now. The guy mentioned the GPU was too large for the case, but it’s functioning. I also fixed the incorrect M.2 type. Thanks for all the support—I hope this helps someone later. I’ll likely check back soon to explore other options.

I actually didn't use it for a few hours today, left it on for a while, then came back and it stopped working. The only thing showing is the RGB lights on the motherboard.

Hey, just got another loss after a day. Hate playing PC games, so I’m going back with everything if it’s bad enough.
