I had a complicated situation with my Razer Kraken headphones. They'd been in use for about four months without any major problems. Recently, while playing games, I noticed occasional crackling sounds—sometimes it happened randomly. I tried several fixes: updating audio drivers, switching to a different driver (Realtek R), downloading another version, and even testing with another brand's headphones. Still, the issue persisted.
I also checked my PC connections, realized maybe the internal cables were faulty, and even tried using a different port on my roommate’s machine. However, they didn’t have any problems. I found out that when I turned around quickly in-game, the crackle appeared, but it wasn’t always the cause.
I tested another set of headphones (JBL Quantum 300s) and even tried them on my PC, but the problem continued. Later, I learned about potential issues with the USB port or cable connections inside the PC. My roommate’s new headphones are USB-based, so I wondered if switching to a different jack might help.
I also checked for updates and disabled audio enhancements, but nothing resolved it. I saw some online discussions suggesting possible Windows-related causes, though I couldn’t recall when things started. Some users reported similar issues, which made me think this might be a broader problem.
I considered using an external sound card as a temporary solution, but it didn’t fix the crackling. The situation is frustrating because I’m still unsure what’s causing it and don’t want to risk system stability by installing updates. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’d likely consider getting an external sound card. A friend mentioned using an 8 euro USB one and it resolved the problem, so I should give it a try. Still, since it also works with USB headphones as well as 3.5mm ones, the front jack probably won’t make much of a difference.
