Hey there, I’m looking for some guidance here. Let’s start with the basics: Motherboard – Asus Rog Crosshair VIII Hero; CPU – Ryzen 5 3600; Cooler – Arctic Liquid Freezer II; RAM – 64 GB (4x16) G.Skill Ripjaws V, 3600 MHz; GPU – Asus Tuf RTX 3080; SSD – 1TB Samsung 980 Pro; PSU – Platinum 1000W; OS – Windows 10 Pro. So, you’re right to notice that with these specs the processor isn’t top-tier. There’s a clear reason for that—mainly the lack of 5000-series chips. I chose the 3600 as a temporary fix and opted to use the other parts that had been gathering dust since November. I was hoping to recoup part of my investment by selling it later. This system has run smoothly for months without any problems. It’s impressive considering how simple it was to build. I’ve played games, edited videos, and worked on music without any hiccups. Recently, an online seller in my country shipped the 5900X at a slight discount. I installed it last Saturday and began upgrading—just updated the BIOS and swapped in the new CPU. Suddenly, things went wrong. The machine wouldn’t boot into Windows. It got stuck in an endless loop. I tried tweaking BIOS settings, even disabling DOCP, but nothing worked. I attempted a Linux setup with a bootable USB, but it also failed to start. Eventually, I removed the 5900X and reinstalled the 3600. The old system worked perfectly. After that, I ran MemTest86 on the 5900X, which passed without issues. I thought maybe RAM was the culprit—my system would reset during OS loading. I used MemTest86 on a thumb drive, but it still froze at Test 6. Even after replacing the RAM stick and adjusting BIOS settings, the problem persisted until I disabled all but one core in the BIOS. Once I switched back to the 3600, everything functioned flawlessly. Now I’m trying to figure out what went wrong during this process. Was there a PEBCAK error? Did I overlook something obvious? I’m concerned about missing compatibility issues or making a critical mistake. If stock is running low and replacements are hard to find, will I ever get another CPU? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

It seems like you're questioning a previous issue and wondering why it might have been resolved. The 5900x case likely had a specific fix or adjustment that addressed the problem. It's reasonable to think another similar fix could prevent the same issues from arising again.

Test the 5900x on another machine. It looks like the issue might be with the processor. If it doesn’t work, replace it with the seller.

Thank you for your confirmation. I wasn't certain I covered all the options, but it seems a likely alternative could have caused it.

I created an account just to mention that I’m currently on my second 5900x experiencing the same problem with identical symptoms. I’ve already had the first issue when it started, and now after using the replacement, I’m facing the exact same complaints again. I’m really confused about what to do next.
