Looking into opinions and ideas about managing the heat from the new Ryzen 9 CPUs. I’m planning to go with the 7950x and am curious about cooling options—air cooling versus AIO. With such a high boost clock of 5.7ghz, I expect it to produce a lot of heat. What do you think? Have people redesigned coolers for these models? Will the Noctua NH-D15s work well with air cooling? And do you think AIO systems are better for users who prefer not to handle custom water cooling?

Anticipating the performance of Zen 4 with its advanced 5nm manufacturing is exciting. It promises greater efficiency in a more compact design, potentially delivering the same 5800x configuration but with enhanced intensity. I’m not rushing—more reviews will emerge so we can gather the full picture.

AIO remains the top choice, but it carries more possible failure points and a higher price tag. Ultimately, the decision depends on your preferences. I believe they won’t need major changes—they’re quite similar to what we currently use and fall short of alternatives like the 12900KS.

For air cooling, NH-d15 or comparable units will hit their limits with 225w-300W loads, usually staying near 80-92°C unless they slow down. AIOs generally perform better for rendering tasks, though they can face reliability issues due to high temperatures and may need replacement every few years if you're running them intensively.

My physical state is prepared for the NH-D16. The NH-D15 might be enough, but we still don't have the full picture.

I handle 235w with PBO on my 5900X and air cooling. A lot of airflow makes it manageable, though 7nm performance is challenging—most cases I've seen are around 260w with a static clock. Reboots typically occur at about 110°C, with some variation.

Estimating around 200w continuous with a peak of 230w seems likely. The D15 might not suffice, possibly needing an IPC fan model. Considering a 360mm AIO for better performance. Checking reviews and planning for the 3D build for a pure gaming setup.
